Formed in January 2006, SAK Construction comprises an experienced team of people, well-known in both the pipeline rehabilitation and tunneling industries. Our leadership’s deep roots in contracting and knowledge about building successful companies have been key components in shaping our approach to building SAK as an organization focused on solving problems for clients.
Built by Industry Leaders
Bob Affholder, SAK Vice Chairman, built both Affholder Inc. and Insituform Mid-America into leaders in the pipeline rehabilitation and tunneling markets. The common theme with any of the successful business ventures Bob has been a part of, is the delight he takes in seeing the people working in those organizations become successful.
Tom Kalishman, SAK Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, brings years of experience from his time at Insituform Mid-America as an operations manager, general manager, and regional director, before serving on the board of directors of Insituform Technologies, Inc. from 1998 to 2005. His experiences in these roles and in other successful business ventures have helped to direct the focus of SAK on client satisfaction and relationships built on excellent communication and service.
Jerry Shaw, SAK President, has a vast wealth of underground contracting experience, serving as a tunneling project manager for Affholder from 1983 to 1987, and leading the day-to-day tunneling operations of Affholder from a $25 million business to a $125 million business from 1987 to 2005. Jerry leads SAK’s day-to-day operations, sharing Bob's and Tom’s great pride and satisfaction in building an organization of competent, talented people who want to solve problems and meet client needs.
Looking Ahead
Fueled by its experienced team and emphasis on client service, SAK has taken its place among the nation’s most recognized leaders in pipeline rehabilitation and large diameter tunneling. With more than 300 employees, SAK generated over $100 million in revenue in 2011. Among the 26 states where SAK has won contracts are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Utah. As the company has grown, so has the scope of its work. Current projects range in size from under $1 million to $31.9 million and include many repeat customers.
